Wolds Retreat Cattery

Where only the best is good enough.......

What's on the itinerary?
At Wolds Retreat, we keep a daily routine which allows our visitors to settle and adjust more quickly to their new surroundings. Known routines help to promote a feeling of safety and contentedness.
Our daily programme
Early morning:
Every day starts with a little chat and a good morning cuddle.
Litter trays are cleaned out, and beds and the pen are inspected and cleaned as necessary.
Then breakfast is served in the form of some tasty wet food (type and flavour may be specified by owner).
Fresh water is served and dry food is topped up.
More cuddles, maybe a massage or a brush-out, and then puzzles/activity centres are set up with kibble treats.
Any guests due to leave in the morning are prepared, so that they are ready for collection. We like to have a special goodbye cuddle!
Any new arrivals are settled in.
Mid-day:
At this point in the day, most cats wind down and settle in to "quiet time". For some, this can mean being fast asleep in the back bedroom for many hours. For others, they may hang out at the front of their pens, keeping half an eye on movements in the garden or on us, working in the cattery. When we have kittens or young cats visiting, this time is often play time. Everyone is given a little cuddle an a treat.
Litter trays are inspected and cleared as necessary.
Then time to relax and enjoy the views of the field and horses at the back , or the cattery garden at the front, whilst we are around and working in the cattery. Calming and relaxing music is usually played.

Mid-afternoon:
We quietly pay each guest a little visit with afternoon cuddles. We may "sit with" some of our guests for prolonged periods of time, depending on personality and need.
Pens and litter trays are inspected and cleared as necessary.
Any guests, due to leave in the afternoon are prepared, so that they are ready for collection.

Pens and litter trays are inspected and cleared as necessary.
Calming and relaxing music is usually played.
Evening
A tasty evening snack (depending on the guest's preferences, this could be cooked chicken or salmon, Lick-e-Lix, tuna, mackerel or even the odd prawn) is served along with evening cuddles.
Clean water bowls are put out and dry food topped up where necessary.
Pens and litter trays are checked and cleaned as necessary.
Puzzles/activity centres are topped up with a few kibble treats.
We will play with anyone up for a game.

Last thing...
A last dish with wet food is served, and the final inspection of the pens and litter trays is carried out.
Each guest has a cuddle before official bedtime.
When it is time for lights out, we play special music specifically composed for cats (see notes below). Then we walk around to each pen and say goodnight to each individual guest by name, whilst switching their bedroom light off, one by one.
Finally, the lights in the safety corridor are switched off, and we lock up the cattery for the night.

Please note:
-
Cats are all different, and they have different routines, needs and habits. Within the programme above, we naturally respect each individual cat's preferences and we will adjust times and activities accordingly.
-
Unless owners specify otherwise, we like our guests to have access to dry food throughout the day and night.
-
We prefer that the wet food, served in the morning, late afternoon and at night, is a wholefood.
-
The evening snack and kibble treats are complementary foods.
-
At times, music and speech will be played from the radio. This is known to help cats feel at home.
-
The "cat music" is a variety of gentle instrumental songs and sounds, including of cat purring, specifically composed to have a calming and relaxing effect on cats.
-
Any medication is administered according to the owner's instructions.
-
As a part of our daily observations focusing on each cat's health and welfare, we keep written records of behaviour, eating and toilet habits.
